Allegations of Scripted Attacks on TMC Leaders in West Bengal

Kolkata, June 1: Anger towards TMC leaders is escalating in West Bengal. Recently, attacks on TMC National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee, followed by MP Kalyan Banerjee, have raised concerns. TMC leaders are accusing the BJP of orchestrating these incidents. However, Bishwajit Sarkar, brother of the late Abhijit Sarkar, who was killed in post-election violence in 2021, has directed his criticism towards the TMC.

In an interview, Bishwajit Sarkar recalled that Abhijit was among the first casualties of the violence that erupted after the 2021 elections. He questioned the current TMC leaders, asking where they were during the brutal murder of his brother by TMC leaders, legislators, councilors, and police.

He expressed frustration over the lack of justice, stating that they have been seeking redress in court for years. Although the NHRC had promised compensation, it has yet to materialize.

Regarding the recent attacks on Kalyan Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, he labeled them as entirely scripted events. He predicted that TMC leaders would soon approach the court seeking additional security, suggesting that they are staging these incidents for public attention.

Bishwajit Sarkar noted a significant difference between the government formed in 2021 and the current one in 2026: the murderers of his brother are now in jail. He emphasized the severity of the atrocities faced by him and his family, stating that while the BJP government has taken no revenge, the TMC’s approach differs starkly from that of the BJP.

He pointed out the disparity in FIRs filed during the post-election violence in 2021 compared to the current incidents, indicating a clear difference between the two governments.

It is important to note that Abhijit Sarkar, a BJP worker, was murdered on May 2, 2021, in the Kankurgachhi area of Kolkata. The initial investigation was conducted by the West Bengal police, but following a directive from the Calcutta High Court, the CBI took over the case. Several suspects have since been arrested.
