Police Raids LJP Legislators Residence in Muzaffarpur Over Land Dispute

Muzaffarpur, August 23: In a significant development in Bihar, police conducted a raid at the residence of LJP (Ram Vilas) legislator Amit Kumar, also known as Ranu, in Muzaffarpur district on Sunday. This action was part of an investigation related to a land dispute. The police executed the search based on a warrant obtained from the court. The legislator’s residence is located in Saraswatinagar, Muzaffarpur, and the area witnessed considerable activity during the operation.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kantesh Kumar Mishra reported that a First Information Report (FIR) was filed on August 20 concerning the demolition of approximately 50 under-construction houses and boundary walls in the Ahiyapur police station area. The initial investigation revealed that the case involved organized efforts to illegally occupy land and demolish boundaries. The FIR named the main accused, Sumit Srivastava and Sonu Singh.

Based on video evidence that emerged during the investigation, Sunny Singh and Sumit Srivastava were arrested. Further inquiries indicated the alleged involvement of the legislator’s brother, Sonu Singh. The police stated that new evidence regarding Amit Kumar’s role is also being collected.

During the search at the legislator’s residence on Saturday morning, police recovered a signed stamp paper from 2017, which is suspected to be fraudulent. Additionally, several partnership agreements, bank-related documents, and vehicle papers were seized. The police are preparing to share these documents with the Economic Offenses Unit for further investigation into the financial aspects.

According to the SSP, following the initial FIR and the arrests of two suspects, 12 additional individuals came forward, leading to the filing of 12 separate cases on Friday. In total, 13 FIRs have now been registered. The police are reaching out to other victims, and further FIRs will be registered upon receiving their complaints. The initial investigation has revealed a climate of fear among the people, with suspicions that the case may be linked to organized crime and previously active protection gangs. Raids will also be conducted at the locations of other accused individuals.

The police have stated that strict action will be taken against those illegally occupying land, and if necessary, proposals for asset evaluation and seizure will be sent. Currently, the police are focused on gathering evidence against the legislator and other suspects.
