
Srinagar, August 23: Two individuals accused under the POCSO Act escaped from Srinagar Central Jail on Sunday. Following the incident, police launched a massive search operation and issued an alert throughout the Union Territory.
A senior police officer reported that both fugitives were incarcerated for separate POCSO cases. Lookout notices have been issued for their arrest after their escape from jail.
According to a notice released by the Kashmir Zone Police, the first accused is Mukhtar Ahmed Gujjar, a resident of Sanglan Chitergul in Anantnag district. He is wanted under FIR number 20/2026 registered at the Soura police station, which includes sections 137(2) and 65(1) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 3/4 of the POCSO Act.
The second accused is Farmaan Khan, a resident of Sadnapora Ragistan. He is wanted under FIR number 19/2026 registered at the Lar police station, which includes sections 137(2) and 87 of the IPC and sections 3/4 of the POCSO Act.
Authorities have stated that a comprehensive search operation is underway to locate the escaped accused. Legal action will also be taken against them for their jailbreak, in addition to the charges already filed.
The police have urged the public to report any information regarding the fugitives to the nearest police station or emergency number 112. They have also announced that a reward will be given for information leading to the arrest of the accused.
