Kolkata, February 20: In West Bengal, Congress leader Shubhankar Sarkar has raised concerns regarding the Election Commission’s effectiveness in building public trust through the SIR process. He stated that the commission has not succeeded in instilling confidence among the electorate.

As the assembly elections approach, both Congress and the BJP are asserting their claims to form the government, while TMC leaders are confident that their party will retain power.

In a conversation in Kolkata, Sarkar highlighted the deteriorating conditions in Bengal. He expressed concern over the removal of genuine voters’ names, which he believes creates an atmosphere of fear. TMC had previously stated that permission for the SIR would not be granted. Sarkar insisted that while SIR should be permitted, it must adhere to constitutional guidelines. He criticized the manner in which SIR is being conducted, claiming it does not align with constitutional norms. The Election Commission has altered its terms and conditions and has not provided adequate testing for BLOs, leading to severe issues, including instances of suicide.

Sarkar emphasized that Congress’s strategy is to remove the Trinamool Congress from power through elections, keep the BJP at bay, and restore effective governance in Bengal.

Referring to Kerala, Sarkar expressed optimism about Congress’s future, stating that he believes the party will form the government there in the coming days. He asserted that Congress is advancing nationwide due to its democratic principles.

Recently, senior Congress leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir announced that the party will field candidates in all 294 assembly seats in the state. He confirmed that Congress will not ally with TMC for the elections. Mir stated that the party is fully prepared for the Bengal elections, with their manifesto nearing completion. It is being crafted based on discussions with the public, addressing their issues and demands.
