New Delhi, April 18: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju held a press conference on Saturday, announcing the official conclusion of the Parliament’s budget session. This session, which began on January 28 and lasted until April 18, is regarded as one of the most historic and productive in recent years.
He noted that the session commenced with the President’s address, followed by a motion of thanks passed in both houses. Subsequently, the central government presented the Union Budget, which was successfully passed after extensive discussion. The Finance Bill was also approved by Parliament.
During the second phase of the session, the Prime Minister made significant statements regarding the ongoing crisis in West Asia in both houses. Additionally, the budget session was extended by three days to complete parliamentary work.
Rijiju stated that, considering the current situation in the country, the government claims that left-wing extremism is nearing its end. Peace has been restored in most areas of the Northeast, except for Manipur, which is considered a significant achievement for the nation. Overall, this budget session will be remembered for its important decisions and meaningful discussions on national issues.
He expressed disappointment that Congress and other opposition parties did not allow the constitutional amendment for women’s reservation to pass with a two-thirds majority, driven by a politically motivated mindset that denies women their rights. This is a sentiment shared by all.
The minister emphasized that this disappointment is not just a loss for the government or any party, but a setback for women in the country. The crucial step to provide adequate representation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies could not be enacted, which is disheartening for everyone involved.
He stated that this should not be viewed as a failure of the government or his party, but rather as a significant blow to the nation, inflicted by the Congress party and some other factions. In the future, they will have to face the wrath of women. The stigma of being anti-women will not easily fade for the Congress party. Celebrating the denial of rights to women is extremely unfortunate and wrong. Has anyone ever seen a victory claimed by denying women their rights?
Rijiju concluded by asserting that providing reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies is a priority for all, and it must be implemented. However, the mindset of Congress and its allies led to the bill’s downfall, and their celebration of this failure reflects their thinking. He stated that excuses will no longer suffice. The clear and straightforward truth is that Congress and its allies have blocked the rights that women should have received.
