Over 175,000 Pilgrims from India Set to Undertake Hajj 2026, First Flight Departing from Delhi Airport

New Delhi, April 18: The Hajj pilgrimage from India for 2026 is officially commencing this Saturday, with the first batch of pilgrims departing for Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Passengers began arriving at the airport early in the morning for the inaugural flight.

This group is departing from various locations across the country. A total of 175,025 pilgrims are expected to participate in this year’s annual Hajj journey. Kausar Jahan, Chairperson of the Delhi Hajj Committee, was present at the airport to oversee the proceedings.

The Ministry of Minority Affairs, acting as the nodal body for Hajj arrangements, has coordinated extensive preparations with the Indian Hajj Committee, other central ministries, state governments, and Saudi officials. This collaboration aims to ensure seamless logistics and improved facilities on the ground.

Speaking to reporters, Kausar Jahan stated, “Today marks the first flight for Hajj 2026, carrying 371 pilgrims. I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to everyone. Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, we are continuously enhancing all facilities to make their journey as smooth, pleasant, and enjoyable as possible.”

One pilgrim shared with a news agency, “By Allah’s will and everyone’s prayers, I have been blessed with the opportunity to perform Hajj 2026. Today, by Allah’s grace, our first flight is from Indira Gandhi Airport in India.”

Another pilgrim expressed, “We will pray for everyone. Every Muslim should have the chance to reach there. This is my first opportunity to undertake such a journey, and I am very happy.”

A third pilgrim from Delhi mentioned, “I lack words to describe this feeling. I am thankful to the government for this opportunity.”

It is noteworthy that the government has increased the insurance coverage for each pilgrim to approximately ₹6.25 lakh, enhancing financial and health security during the journey. Additionally, the introduction of a high-speed train service between Mecca and Medina will benefit around 60,000 pilgrims, making the journey faster and more comfortable.
