Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh Extend Greetings on Guru Angad Dev Jis Celebration

New Delhi, April 18: On the occasion of the celebration of Guru Angad Dev Ji, the second guru of Sikhism and the inventor of the Gurmukhi script, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh have conveyed their best wishes.

Home Minister Amit Shah shared on social media platform X, “Guru Angad Dev Ji made service, devotion, and social reform the foundation of his life. He promoted Sikhism through the development of the Gurmukhi script and advocated for equality and unity through the tradition of langar. His teachings continue to inspire us to walk the path of truth, dedication, and humanity. Heartfelt wishes on the celebration of Guru Angad Dev Ji.”

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also posted on X, stating, “On the auspicious occasion of Guru Angad Dev Ji’s celebration, I pay my humble tribute to this revered spiritual leader and the second guru of Sikhism. He strengthened the foundations of education, selfless service, and social harmony. His contribution to standardizing the Gurmukhi script, which later became the basis of the Punjabi language, enriches our cultural identity and will guide future generations. His teachings inspire us to build a united, compassionate, and progressive society.”

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also extended his greetings on X, saying, “Heartfelt congratulations to all on the celebration of the revered Guru Angad Dev Ji.”

Guru Angad Dev was the second guru of the Sikhs. He modified the characters of the Punjabi script established by Guru Nanak Dev and created an alphabet for the Gurmukhi script, which quickly gained popularity among the people. He took a special interest in children’s education and initiated the tradition of wrestling for the youth. Guru Angad Dev Ji was born in the village of Harike in the Firozpur district. His original name was Lehna, and he was the son of merchant Feru and mother Mata Ramo Devi.
