Festive Procession of Goddess Ganga Begins Ahead of Akshay Tritiya

Uttarkashi, April 18: The auspicious Char Dham Yatra, one of the holiest pilgrimages in Sanatan Dharma, has commenced. On Akshay Tritiya, which falls on April 19, the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples will be opened for devotees.

Preparations for decorating the temples of Gangotri and Yamunotri are already underway. Meanwhile, the festive palanquin of Goddess Ganga was ceremoniously sent off from her winter residence in Mukhwa village to Gangotri Dham on Saturday.

The palanquin was dispatched with proper rituals, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with faith, devotion, and joy. The excitement among devotees was palpable as the palanquin of Goddess Ganga began its journey. On Sunday, during the auspicious moment, the doors of the Gangotri temple will be opened for pilgrims, marking the start of visits from thousands of devotees from across the country and abroad.

Before the departure of the palanquin from Mukhwa village, a special worship ceremony was held, and the entire village was adorned magnificently. Local residents bid farewell to the palanquin with traditional drums and instruments, echoing chants of “Jai Maa Gange” throughout the temple complex. A large crowd of devotees and officials participated in the procession, united in their chants of praise for Goddess Ganga.

On the occasion of Akshay Tritiya, the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham will be opened, with the temple committee and administration making thorough arrangements. The temple complex has been specially decorated, and extensive security measures have been implemented. Preparations for traffic management, parking, drinking water, health services, sanitation, and disaster management have been made to ensure that devotees face no inconvenience.

It is noteworthy that due to heavy snowfall during winter, the doors of Gangotri Dham are closed, and the idol of Goddess Ganga is installed in the temple at Mukhwa village, where she is worshipped with full rituals.
