BJPs Discomfort Exposed After Womens Reservation Bill Fails: Abhishek Banerjee

New Delhi, April 18: Abhishek Banerjee, the General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress, has expressed that the recent failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha has laid bare the BJP’s unease. He reacted to the bill’s defeat, highlighting the political implications it carries.

In a post on the social media platform X, Banerjee stated that the aftermath of the Women’s Reservation Bill’s defeat has clearly shown the BJP’s discomfort.

The Women’s Reservation Act, which guarantees 33 percent reservation for women, was passed unanimously in September 2023.

He further urged that if the NDA government is genuinely serious about women’s representation, it should promptly introduce a bill to notify one-third of the seats. “Do it now,” he insisted.

The TMC has not only supported this initiative theoretically but has also taken significant steps to ensure women’s representation, which currently exceeds 41 percent in Parliament.

The constitutional 131st amendment bill of 2026 has been rejected by the India alliance. The proposal to increase Lok Sabha seats to 850 and implement delimitation based on the 2011 census has raised serious concerns regarding fairness and balance.

The NDA government’s time is running out, and the illusion of its control over power is becoming increasingly apparent.

In fact, the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill could not be passed in the Lok Sabha on Friday. During the voting, 298 MPs supported the bill, while 230 voted against it, resulting in its failure.
