Mumbai, June 13: AIMIM national spokesperson Waris Pathan has responded to the controversial remarks made by comedian Sejal Pawar during a recent show. He emphasized that all forms of comedy, whether dark, stand-up, or soft, should adhere to certain boundaries. No one should cross limits that could hurt others’ sentiments. Pathan pointed out that if a Muslim woman had made a similar statement, it would have led to a media trial.
He clarified that KEM Hospital has stated that Sejal Pawar is not a doctor but a third-year MBBS student. The words used by Sejal are condemnable, he noted, adding that anyone would be offended by comments regarding deceased individuals or their anatomy. However, he acknowledged that Sejal Pawar has already issued an apology for her remarks.
Pathan mentioned that a committee has been formed to investigate the matter, an FIR has been filed, and police inquiries are ongoing. He claimed that evidence is emerging suggesting that Pawar has been involved in similar controversies before. He stated that the situation would become clearer once the investigation report is available.
He raised a critical question: if a woman with a Muslim name, such as Rihanna, Shabana, or Aisha, had made such comments, the entire Muslim community would have been put on trial. Pathan alleged that in such a scenario, there would have been a media trial, a national debate, and the issue would have been presented differently. He insisted that the law should be equal for everyone, and actions should be based on facts after the investigation concludes.
Regarding the controversial film “Kala Hiran – The Battle for Legacy,” Pathan mentioned that he was a lawyer in the early stages of the hit-and-run case involving Salman Khan but has no connection to the blackbuck case. He stated that as a lawyer, he believes the matter is still pending in court (sub judice). Therefore, if a film is made or released on this subject, it is natural for Salman Khan to be concerned about its impact on his image.
Pathan noted that Salman Khan is a major star, a brand, and a globally recognized figure. Some may attempt to use his name for discussion or publicity. However, he clarified that this is his personal assessment, and the final decision will be clear only after the court’s ruling. He emphasized that whatever decision the court makes, it should be respected by Salman Khan, the filmmakers, and all involved parties.
On the FIR against former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Pathan stated, “Didi is going through a tough time. Everyone is leaving her side. There are reports of actions taken against her, and a case has been filed regarding alleged hate speech. The police will investigate the matter.”
When asked if there would ever be a time when Mamata Banerjee might go to jail, Pathan replied, “The law applies equally to everyone, whether they are a chief minister or an ordinary citizen. That is what the Constitution states. No law is above the Constitution. Everyone falls under its jurisdiction.”
