Kolkata, June 14: In a significant move to improve passenger amenities, Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar conducted a thorough inspection of the Eastern Railway’s Tarakeshwar-Seoraphuli section on Sunday. He also visited the Tarakeshwar and Seoraphuli stations, discussing essential strategies to enhance passenger services.
Work is already underway to extend this section to Bankura, although progress has been temporarily halted on a small segment due to legal issues. Once completed, this project will provide a shorter route from Howrah to the southern districts of Bankura and Purulia.
An official from Eastern Railway stated that senior officials from both Eastern Railway (ER) and South Eastern Railway (SER) accompanied the Chairman. The purpose of this visit was to strengthen railway infrastructure and accelerate socio-economic development in West Bengal.
The official further noted that the Chairman reviewed aspects related to passenger management and operations in the section to ensure smooth train operations and improved passenger convenience. He also engaged in detailed discussions with railway officials on measures to enhance service quality and operational capacity.
To expedite crucial infrastructure projects, Kumar held a coordination meeting with the District Magistrate of Hooghly and senior officials from the West Bengal government’s Public Works Department (PWD).
This meeting emphasized improving coordination between the railway and state government to ensure timely completion of ongoing and upcoming railway projects in the area.
The Chairman stressed the importance of completing infrastructure projects within the set timelines, highlighting their role in enhancing connectivity, promoting economic growth, and improving passenger facilities.
Kumar also conducted a ‘window-trailing’ inspection from Tarakeshwar to Howrah.
