Chennai, July 11: Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran criticized Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Saturday. He accused the government of failing to fill thousands of vacant positions in government departments while announcing jobs for select beneficiaries.
In a strong statement, Nagendran claimed that despite a significant number of vacancies, the state government is neglecting the hopes of millions of educated unemployed youth by delaying recruitment in essential public services.
Referring to the deaths that occurred during Vijay’s election rally in Karur last year, the BJP leader noted that the government had promised jobs for affected families after coming to power. He questioned whether such selective appointments could compensate for the widespread shortage of recruitment across the state.
He stated, “Instead of addressing the employment needs of millions of qualified youth who have worked hard to qualify for government jobs, the government seems focused on only a few appointments.”
Nagendran asserted that there are vacancies in several sectors, including higher education, school education, healthcare, and public utilities. He alleged that around 125 of the 181 government arts and science colleges in Tamil Nadu are operating without principals, and nearly 9,000 assistant professor positions remain unfilled.
He further claimed that more than half of the professor positions at major universities, including the University of Madras, Madurai Kamaraj University, and Bharathidasan University, are vacant.
The BJP leader also pointed out that over 30,000 intermediate teacher positions and thousands of other teaching roles in government schools are unoccupied.
He mentioned that more than 7,000 government nurses are demanding permanent appointments, while vacancies persist in the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, where candidates, including gangmen, are seeking recruitment based on merit.
Nagendran added that sanitation workers, doctors, anganwadi workers, and transport employees are also demanding regular government appointments.
Criticizing the government’s recruitment process, Nagendran highlighted that despite numerous vacancies across various departments, only 26 vacancies were announced for this year’s TNPSC Group-I examination.
He questioned why the government has not released department-wise recruitment programs, despite thousands of candidates already passing exams like the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and Teacher Recruitment Board (TRB) examinations. Nagendran urged the Chief Minister to expedite the recruitment process and fill all vacant positions immediately, ensuring that qualified candidates waiting for government jobs receive appointments without further delay.
