Milwaukee, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is set to visit India at the end of October, accompanied by representatives from 100 leading Polish companies. This announcement was made by Poland’s Finance and Economy Minister, Andrzej Domanski, during a special interview in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Wednesday.
Domanski emphasized that Poland aims to rapidly enhance its economic and business relations with India. Tusk’s itinerary includes stops in New Delhi and Bengaluru, where economic cooperation will be a primary focus.
In reference to his meeting with India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, Domanski noted, “The meeting was held face-to-face, and the media was not present. I can confirm that we discussed various topics, including Prime Minister Tusk’s upcoming visit to India.”
He added that Tusk plans to visit not only Delhi but also Bengaluru, highlighting the importance of economic issues and collaboration during the trip.
Domanski acknowledged that while relations between Poland and India are improving, the potential for cooperation has yet to be fully realized. He expressed satisfaction with the agreements reached at the EU level, emphasizing that it is each member country’s responsibility to boost trade and collaboration.
“We are pleased to bring around 100 major companies from Poland for this visit,” he stated. He described Poland as a rapidly growing economy, forecasting an economic growth rate of 3.5 to 3.6 percent this year. Domanski indicated that Poland is seeking new business partners, with India being a priority.
He remarked, “India is a vast country and a leading nation in Asia. We want to establish closer trade relations with India.”
Domanski pointed out significant opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as defense, space, machinery, and food processing. He noted that Poland, which is rapidly developing its defense industry, sees substantial potential for cooperation in this area.
Additionally, Poland has decided to double its investment in the space sector, and Domanski confirmed that they will bring companies from this sector to India. He highlighted Poland’s strengths in machinery and food processing, including the export of poultry products.
For Indian companies looking to invest in Poland, Domanski mentioned promising opportunities in clean energy, information technology, and the industrial sector. He positioned Poland as a gateway for Indian firms to access the larger European market.
“Poland can serve as an excellent hub for Indian investments in Europe. As an EU member, investing in Poland provides Indian companies access to the EU market,” he stated.
Domanski also emphasized the importance of India’s democratic system in fostering long-term economic relationships. “We view India as a global leader. In our eyes, India is a country of ambitious people, much like the Polish,” he said, expressing a desire for stable economic ties with India.
During the G20 meeting, Domanski raised concerns about the use of agricultural trade as a pressure tactic, referring to disruptions caused by the war in Ukraine and trade restrictions in the Black Sea region.
He underscored India’s role in global trade, stating, “India is a leader. It is not only one of the largest economies in the world, but its GDP growth rate is also quite high.”
Domanski expressed optimism that Poland, the EU, and India will become much closer trading partners in the future.
The strategic partnership between India and Poland was elevated during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Warsaw in August 2024. Both nations adopted a five-year action plan covering various sectors, including trade, investment, defense, energy, green technology, agriculture, and infrastructure.
Modi’s visit was historic as it marked the first trip to Poland by an Indian Prime Minister in 45 years. Tusk had previously visited India in 2010 during his tenure as Prime Minister. Modi extended an invitation for Tusk to visit India during his 2024 trip to Poland.
