
Ahmedabad, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel lauded Indian pilot Smita Machhar for her remarkable bravery during an in-flight incident on Flydubai flight FZ1073. The flight was en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv when the co-pilot launched an attack. Despite sustaining injuries from a knife attack, Machhar managed to secure the safety of the passengers and crew onboard.
Most of the passengers on the flight were Israeli citizens, who assisted in subduing the assailant. The aircraft was safely diverted to Tabuk Airport, avoiding what could have been a major disaster.
On social media platform X, CM Patel expressed immense pride, stating, “Gujarat and the entire nation are very proud. The indomitable courage and valor displayed by Captain Smita Machhar in the sky are truly beyond imagination. Despite being seriously injured, she confronted the attacker, averted a major tragedy, and saved the lives of 174 passengers.”
He further emphasized, “She is a proud Indian, and her veins carry Gujarati blood, a true symbol of our resilience and bravery. This courageous daughter of Gujarat has brought honor to our country on a global stage. I salute her extraordinary valor and wish for her swift and complete recovery.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised Machhar, calling her a “hero” for her actions. In a post on X, he remarked, “Pilot Smita Machhar is a hero. Despite facing severe danger and being gravely injured, she showed tremendous courage and did not waver in her intent to save others’ lives. Her bravery has saved hundreds and averted a major tragedy.”
Modi concluded his post with wishes for her quick recovery and return to full health.
