Indian Pilot Captain Smita Machhar Honored for Heroism by Ministry of External Affairs

New Delhi, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has praised Captain Smita Machhar for her extraordinary bravery. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal provided an update on her health, stating that she is currently receiving treatment and is safe. Captain Machhar was attacked during a FlyDubai flight but managed to fulfill her responsibility of ensuring the safety of passengers and crew despite her injuries.

In a post on the social media platform X, Jaiswal expressed, “We salute Captain Smita Machhar for her courage. Despite being severely injured, she displayed remarkable bravery and saved many lives. She is currently undergoing treatment and is safe. We wish for her swift recovery and stand proudly with her and her family.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also commended Captain Machhar’s heroism, describing her as a hero. In a post on X, he stated, “Captain Smita Machhar is a hero. Even amidst grave danger and severe injury, she showed tremendous courage and did not waver in her intent to save others. Thanks to her bravery, hundreds of lives were saved, and a major tragedy was averted.” He further expressed his pride in her and wished for her complete recovery and good health.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar praised Captain Machhar’s exceptional courage as well. He wrote on X, “Captain Smita Machhar’s extraordinary bravery and presence of mind in difficult circumstances saved hundreds of lives and averted a major tragedy. Join countless others around the world in saluting her heroism and praying for her swift recovery.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also acknowledged Captain Machhar’s bravery. He expressed his admiration for her courage despite her serious injuries, stating, “My salute to the extraordinary bravery of Indian pilot Captain Smita Machhar.” He extended his wishes for her quick and full recovery, referring to her as a “true hero.”

Former U.S. President Donald Trump labeled Captain Machhar a “hero” as well. He recounted the incident during a flight to Israel, where the co-pilot attacked Captain Machhar with a knife. Despite her severe injuries, she successfully opened the cockpit door. Trump mentioned that he had a lengthy conversation about the incident with Prime Minister Netanyahu.
