New Delhi, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar sent his best wishes to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and the people of China on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. This day, celebrated as National Day in China, marks the founding of the PRC on October 1, 1949, by Mao Zedong.
In a post on the social media platform X, Jaishankar expressed, “My best wishes to Politburo member and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and the people of China on the anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China.”
Jaishankar’s message comes at a time when relations between India and China have shown signs of improvement after a prolonged period of tension. During his recent visit to New York, he noted that the current state of India-China relations is better than during the worst phases of border tensions. However, he emphasized that the normalization of ties depends on the situation along the border.
He stated that relations have improved compared to 2025 and have seen significant progress since 2024. Nevertheless, he cautioned against viewing this improvement as a fundamental change in the relationship.
Jaishankar remarked, “I don’t think this is a fundamental change. It is more about the fact that after a period of deterioration, we are now seeing improvement.” He highlighted that the prolonged border tensions since 2020 had severely impacted normal communications between the two nations.
While trade between India and China continued, official contacts, visas, and flights were affected. As tensions eased along the border, some of these connections have started to resume. Jaishankar described this as a natural outcome of stabilizing relations, rather than evidence that the fundamental issues between the two countries have been resolved.
He concluded by stating that the deterioration of relations is not beneficial for either side and warned that third parties could exploit such situations.
