New Delhi, April 27: A political storm has erupted following comments made by Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), regarding Justice Swarnamala. Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva sharply criticized Kejriwal, accusing him of engaging in political theatrics out of fear of punishment. He emphasized that such behavior has no place in Indian democracy.
Sachdeva stated, “We condemn the letter written by Arvind Kejriwal. The manner in which he has addressed the judge and commented on the court is unfortunate. There is no room for such conduct in politics. Kejriwal is accused in the liquor scam, and the High Court has rejected his appeal. However, one must face the court. The kind of political theatrics he is resorting to is not acceptable in Indian democracy.”
He further remarked, “Kejriwal knows well that he has taken an oath to uphold the Constitution three times since becoming Chief Minister. His current behavior is a violation of constitutional norms. He also understands that he is likely to face punishment in the liquor scam. It is this fear of punishment that is driving his actions.”
When asked about Kejriwal invoking Mahatma Gandhi’s name, Sachdeva responded, “Kejriwal is mentioning Mahatma Gandhi. I have a question for him: Did Mahatma Gandhi ever say to engage in liquor smuggling or take commissions under the guise of liquor shops?”
The Delhi BJP President asserted, “Kejriwal is completely contradicting the traditions that Gandhi upheld. He is tarnishing Gandhi’s name.”
He added, “Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party perform theatrics at Gandhi’s memorial. Every follower of Gandhi should hold Kejriwal accountable for his actions. Kejriwal should be ashamed of his conduct and behavior. We must have faith in our democracy and our actions. If you believe that a decision will not be in your favor, you should appeal to a higher court. However, to preemptively conclude that this judge will deliver such a verdict is wrong.”
