Beijing, April 28: The Chinese National Development and Reform Commission has recently released the revised “Tibet Ecological Security Barrier Protection and Construction Plan.” This initiative aims to strengthen ecological security and restoration in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
According to the plan, by 2030, forest coverage in Tibet should exceed 12.61%. Additionally, vegetation coverage in grasslands must surpass 50%. The soil and water conservation rate is expected to increase to 92.22%. Furthermore, nature reserves should encompass more than one-third of the region’s land, with a continuous improvement in ecological environmental quality.
The plan also outlines enhancements to the ecological security barrier system. Projects focused on ecological conservation and restoration in the northwestern Tibet, particularly in the Qiangtang Plateau, will be implemented. Improvements to the nature reserve system are planned, along with the promotion of national parks that feature alpine ecosystems and mountain cryosphere.
