Ahmedabad, April 28: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of extreme heat in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, for the upcoming week. The maximum temperature is expected to reach up to 44 degrees Celsius, prompting the issuance of an orange alert starting April 28 and lasting for six days.
According to the IMD, this alert will remain in effect until 8:30 AM on May 4, with a yellow alert also expected during this period. Forecasts indicate that daytime temperatures will range between 43 and 44 degrees Celsius, while nighttime lows may hover around 28 degrees Celsius.
Furthermore, the IMD has prepared temperature forecasts for 20 wards across six zones in the city, allowing for localized monitoring of heat conditions. Based on these forecasts, hot spot areas in Ahmedabad have been identified for the next three days.
Residents will be able to access area-specific temperature data and hot spot information through a QR code system. This data will include estimated maximum temperatures recorded between 1 PM and 5 PM in various neighborhoods.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has issued a advisory urging residents to take precautions against the extreme heat. Citizens are advised to stay hydrated and increase their intake of fluids such as water, lemonade, buttermilk, and coconut water.
The advisory also recommends avoiding direct sunlight between 12 PM and 4 PM and wearing loose, light-colored cotton clothing. Residents are encouraged to refrain from consuming stale food, high-protein meals, and spicy dishes, as well as to limit their intake of tea, coffee, and carbonated beverages.
The AMC has specifically called for extra attention to be given to children, the elderly, and pregnant women. Health officials have warned that symptoms of heat-related illnesses may include excessive sweating, weakness, headaches, dizziness, red and dry skin, muscle pain, nausea, and vomiting.
