Moscow, April 28: The German Ambassador to Russia, Alexander Lambsdorff, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday. Maria Zakharova, the ministry’s spokesperson, provided this information to local media.
Lambsdorff’s summons was related to a meeting in Kyiv between Roderich Kiesewetter, a member of the German Bundestag, and Ahmad Zakayev, the leader of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.
Kiesewetter is affiliated with Germany’s ruling Christian Democratic Union party and serves on the parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee. The Chechen Republic of Ichkeria has been designated a banned organization by Russia, which considers it a terrorist group. Its leaders are also listed as internationally wanted.
Russia warned Germany that such actions would have “detrimental effects” and stated that any hostile steps against Russia would be met with a response.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed strong opposition regarding the recent meeting in Kyiv, which involved German MP R. Kiesewetter and A. Zakayev, a leader of a banned and wanted terrorist organization. It claimed that the meeting was facilitated by the Zelensky government.
Moscow argues that this meeting is clear evidence that Germany seeks to interfere in Russia’s internal affairs and poses a threat to its national security. Russia has also accused Germany of collaborating with terrorist organizations.
The statement further noted, “The German MP praised the anti-Russian activities of this organization. Members of this group have been involved in sabotage incidents in the Belgorod and Kursk regions. The MP also called for collaboration with them, which includes attempts to recruit Russians living in Germany to create instability in Russia.”
