UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock to Visit India for Bilateral Meetings

New Delhi, April 28: Annalena Baerbock, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, will arrive in India on Monday at the invitation of the Indian government. During her visit, she will engage in several bilateral meetings with officials.

According to the official schedule, Baerbock is set to land in Delhi at 9:30 PM on Monday, arriving at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport.

On Tuesday, she will visit Raj Ghat at 10:20 AM to pay her respects. Following this, she will meet with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar at Hyderabad House at 1:00 PM.

Later in the afternoon, Baerbock will address a press briefing at UN House at 3:30 PM. She will then engage in discussions with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology at Electronics Niketan at 4:30 PM. Her visit will conclude with her departure from Delhi at 10:50 PM.

This marks the second high-level UN visit to India following Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ trip to the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi in February.

Baerbock is familiar with India. During her previous visit as Germany’s Foreign Minister, she traveled on the Delhi Metro to strengthen ties with the country. However, this will be her first visit in her capacity as President of the General Assembly.

In 2022, during her initial ministerial visit, she stated, “There is no doubt that India will play a crucial role in shaping the international order of the 21st century, both in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.”

She highlighted India’s achievement of lifting 400 million people out of poverty over the past 15 years, emphasizing that a pluralistic society, freedom, and democracy are the keys to economic growth, peace, and stability.

During that visit, she signed a migration and mobility agreement to facilitate the movement of skilled individuals. She was also present during Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit to India in 2024, which coincided with the seventh German-Indian intergovernmental consultations, themed “Moving Forward Together with Innovation, Mobility, and Sustainability.”
