Colombo, April 25: India has extended its ongoing humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka by delivering two BHISM (Bharat Health Initiative for Cooperation and Friendship) cubes on Friday. This initiative is part of India’s ‘Arogya Maitri’ program.
These modern portable medical units can handle approximately 200 emergency cases simultaneously. They are equipped with essential medicines and surgical instruments for minor operations, enabling immediate medical care.
In addition, India is strengthening its maritime security cooperation by supplying the Sri Lankan Navy with 50,000 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The medical units were delivered via the Indian Navy ship INS Inspector, which arrived at Colombo Port on April 21. This ship is participating in the fourth bilateral diving exercise, which will continue until April 27. INS Inspector is a diving support and submarine rescue vessel of the Indian Navy.
According to the Indian Navy, the IN-SL diving exercise is a significant aspect of deep-sea cooperation between India and Sri Lanka. It reflects the partnership, trust, and collaborative spirit between the two nations. This cooperation aims to promote stability, mutual development, and security in the Indian Ocean region, under the ‘Oceans’ vision for mutual and comprehensive advancement in security and development.
The ongoing exercise in Colombo is further strengthening the robust maritime cooperation and professional synergy between the two countries.
An Indian Navy spokesperson stated that divers from both nations demonstrated excellent coordination, skill, and precision during mixed-gas dives conducted underwater.
Additionally, the divers engaged in a friendly volleyball match after diving. They also collaborated on a beach cleanup, sending a message about the importance of keeping the oceans and coastlines clean.
