Washington, April 25: The United States issued a warning on Friday regarding the ongoing threat to vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz amid escalating tensions with Iran. Despite limited maritime traffic continuing, the situation has become increasingly perilous.
U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth stated that ships are still navigating this crucial maritime route, but the risks have intensified. During a Pentagon briefing, he noted that while traffic persists, it is not at the desired levels and carries greater danger than before.
Hegseth attributed the heightened threat to Iran’s activities, which include the use of high-speed small boats and intimidation of commercial vessels. He emphasized that only commercial ships are being targeted.
The U.S. has authorized a robust response to potential threats, especially if naval mines are deployed in the waters. Hegseth asserted that if Iran lays mines, the U.S. will not hesitate to destroy them.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Keen remarked that Iran has previously attacked merchant vessels in the region. Iran has reportedly targeted five commercial ships, two of which were seized.
The Pentagon indicated that the U.S. Navy has imposed strict restrictions on vessels linked to Iranian ports while allowing other ships to pass under controlled conditions.
