Jaipur, April 25: Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has directed officials to connect more livestock farmers to the dairy sector, highlighting its vital role in the state’s rural economy.
He stated that the dairy industry plays a significant part in the state’s economy and requires innovation and effective implementation to strengthen it further.
On Friday, Chief Minister Sharma chaired a review meeting at the Chief Minister’s office to assess the progress, expansion, and implementation of various plans by the Rajasthan Cooperative Dairy Federation.
He instructed officials to develop a comprehensive action plan to enhance the marketing of dairy products and to implement strict quality standards effectively.
Additionally, he directed the establishment of new dairy booths based on data from the ‘Developed Village’ and ‘Developed Ward’ campaigns.
The Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to protecting the interests of both milk producers and consumers. Initiatives like the Milk Producer Support Scheme are providing financial assistance to dairy farmers, while ‘Saras’ products are emerging as symbols of quality and trust among consumers.
The meeting also discussed expanding the ‘Saras’ brand through modern outlets such as Saras Smart, Saras Cafe, and Saras Signature Plaza.
The Chief Minister instructed the establishment of such outlets at major religious and tourist sites like Khatu Shyamji, Salasar, Nathdwara, Pushkar, and Ajmer to strengthen branding, ensuring all necessary facilities for consumers.
He reviewed the progress of Saras Smart Parlors operating in government offices, such as collectorates, and discussed the expansion of Saras outlets in government hospitals, Rajasthan Roadways bus stands, and tourism development corporation hotels.
The Chief Minister also directed planning partnerships with reputable private institutions to promote and expand ‘Saras’ products in other states.
He emphasized taking strict measures to prevent adulteration and developing a robust system for monitoring quality throughout the entire process, from milk procurement to final product distribution, to maintain the quality of ‘Saras’ products.
Officials reported that the state currently procures approximately 4.5 million liters of milk daily. Plans are in place to increase this to 6.5 million liters per day in the first phase and 8.5 million liters per day in the second phase. New cooperatives are being established in areas without dairy cooperatives, and the milk procurement price has been raised from 50 to 52 rupees per kilogram of fat, benefiting livestock farmers.
Moreover, new milk processing plants are being set up with an investment of around 5.3 billion rupees, and existing units are being expanded to enhance the state’s processing capacity.
The meeting was attended by Livestock and Dairy Minister Jorararam Kumawat, Chief Secretary V. Srinivas, Additional Chief Secretary (Chief Minister’s Office) Akhil Arora, Principal Secretary (Livestock) Sitaram Bhale, Cooperation Secretary Dr. Sameet Sharma, Managing Director of the Rajasthan Cooperative Dairy Federation, and other senior officials.
