Shanghai Hosts 2026 Maritime Community Forum for a Shared Future

Beijing, April 24: The second “Maritime Community for a Shared Future” forum was held on April 23 at the Linkang Campus of Shanghai Maritime University. The theme of the event was “Jointly Safeguard Maritime Security and Promote Blue Development.”

This forum exemplifies the concept of a shared future for humanity in the maritime sector and serves as a significant public initiative by China to enhance global ocean governance. Its aim is to build a bridge for maritime exchange and cooperation between China and other nations, unify efforts to jointly protect maritime security, and promote the concept of a shared future in maritime communities.

The event featured a main forum and four parallel sub-forums. Experts and scholars exchanged views on topics such as cooperative development in the Asia-Pacific maritime sector, maritime security and legal principles, the functioning of the blue economy, and national security situations.

An official from the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific praised China’s vital role in international maritime cooperation during a video address. He called on all parties to strengthen collaboration, build consensus, and jointly promote green, digital, and resilient development in shipping, working together to create a shared future for maritime communities and a sustainable, prosperous future.

During the event, the report titled “Global Maritime Security Situation Assessment and Perspectives (2025-2026)” and the initiative “Jointly Safeguard Maritime Security and Build a Blue Future” were released, facilitating the dissemination of maritime concepts and reaching consensus on various forms of cooperation.
