UAE Mediates Successful Prisoner Exchange Between Russia and Ukraine

New Delhi, April 25: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced another successful mediation between Russia and Ukraine. As a result, both sides have released 193 prisoners each.

This latest effort brings the total number of prisoners exchanged through UAE mediation to 6,691. The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) expressed appreciation for both countries’ cooperation in these mediation efforts. This reflects the trust and recognition of the UAE’s role in assisting with crisis resolution.

The ministry emphasized that the success of this mediation underscores the unique relationships between the UAE, the Russian Federation, and Ukraine. Additionally, it reiterated the UAE’s commitment to ensuring the success of all efforts aimed at finding a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which includes addressing humanitarian impacts such as those affecting refugees and prisoners.

Earlier, discussions regarding the Ukraine issue also took place at the United Nations Security Council. During the meeting, China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Sun Lei, emphasized the need for a swift de-escalation of the situation and the establishment of a ceasefire.

Sun Lei noted that the Ukraine crisis has persisted for a long time. The international community shares a common expectation for an end to the conflict and the pursuit of a political solution. All parties should continue dialogue and strive for consensus. It is crucial for all relevant parties to engage in the negotiation process, maintain communication, and work towards a comprehensive, lasting, and binding peace agreement under the principles of the UN Charter.
