New Delhi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : India and Vietnam have reiterated their commitment to enhancing peace, stability, and security in the Indo-Pacific region. This important dialogue took place on September 13 during a meeting in New Delhi between India’s Defense Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang.
The discussions followed a high-level bilateral meeting between the Prime Ministers of India and Vietnam on the sidelines of the BRICS summit. During this meeting, both officials focused on strengthening the friendship between the two nations and advancing their comprehensive strategic partnership. They emphasized accelerating joint initiatives, sharing technology, and increasing cooperation in the defense industry.
According to the Ministry of Defense, both sides acknowledged that robust maritime and defense collaboration is crucial for establishing a peaceful, stable, and rules-based security framework in the region. They stressed the need to enhance mutual coordination in multilateral forums, particularly highlighting the importance of active participation in the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting-Plus framework. Both countries expressed their commitment to enhancing practical defense cooperation through ASEAN-led mechanisms.
The significance of collaborative platforms like the Expert Working Group was underscored during the meeting. These platforms play a vital role in maintaining regional stability and strengthening collective security structures in the Indo-Pacific. Additionally, both parties agreed to hold the next defense policy dialogue in India, scheduled to take place during Aero India 2027 in Bengaluru.
This meeting is seen as a step forward in implementing the strategic direction set by the leaders of both countries at the BRICS summit. It is expected to give new momentum to defense, maritime security, and regional cooperation between India and Vietnam.
