New Delhi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Chinese President Xi Jinping left for China after participating in the 18th BRICS Summit held in New Delhi. His departure followed a day of engagements, including listening to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address during an outreach meeting. The two leaders also posed for a family photo together.
This visit marked Xi’s first trip to India in seven years for the summit. On the sidelines, he held a bilateral meeting with Modi, where he emphasized that India and China are partners rather than rivals. He called for both nations to resolve border disputes and maintain peace and stability along their shared border.
According to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Xi and Modi have met twice in the past two years. These meetings have played a crucial role in revitalizing and strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
The statement also noted that institutional dialogue between India and China has gradually resumed, with the scope of cooperation expanding and bilateral trade reaching record levels.
The ministry highlighted that while India and China have different circumstances, they can learn from each other‘s strengths, collaborate, and achieve shared success together.
Xi proposed four key suggestions for the long-term and stable development of India-China relations. First, he urged both countries to adopt an objective and balanced strategic understanding. He reiterated that India and China are partners, not competitors, and should view each other’s growth as opportunities rather than threats. This perspective is informed by the development levels of both nations, international conditions, and shared public interests.
Second, he suggested that both countries should achieve mutual success through cooperation and partnership, fostering friendly relations and mutually beneficial collaboration.
Third, Xi called for the removal of obstacles based on mutual respect and understanding. He stressed that bilateral relations and border issues should be addressed simultaneously, ensuring peace and stability in border areas. His fourth suggestion was to promote multilateral cooperation, encouraging India and China to support each other within BRICS and enhance collaboration on platforms like the United Nations, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and G20.
Xi emphasized the necessity for both countries to work together to tackle global challenges.
