South Korean Speaker Embarks on European Tour to Boost Economic Cooperation

Seoul, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : South Korea’s National Assembly Speaker Cho Jeong-sik is set to begin a nine-day tour of Europe, focusing on economic and industrial collaboration. The trip, which commences on Tuesday, will include visits to Italy, Vatican City, Croatia, and Greece.

This marks Cho’s first overseas journey since taking office in June. According to local media, he aims to engage in in-depth discussions about establishing peace with North Korea during his time in Vatican City.

On Wednesday, Cho is scheduled to meet with Lorenzo Fontana, President of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies, and Gian Marco Centinaio, Vice President of the Senate. The discussions will center on enhancing exchanges between the parliaments of both nations and bolstering economic and industrial cooperation.

While in Vatican City, Cho plans to meet with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Holy See’s Secretary of State, along with Cardinal Lazar Yu Hyung-sik. They will discuss South Korea’s commitment to hosting World Youth Day 2027.

Additionally, Cho intends to leverage these meetings to seek continued Vatican support for peace on the Korean Peninsula and to revive dialogue between the North and South.

Following his stay in Italy and Vatican City, Cho will travel to Croatia, where he will meet with President Zoran Milanović, Parliament Speaker Gordon Jandroković, and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Friday. The agenda will likely include discussions on advanced technologies and collaboration in the energy and defense sectors.

From Croatia, Cho will head to Greece for meetings with President Konstantinos Tassoulas and Nikitas Kaklamanis, Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament. Key topics will include cooperation in shipbuilding, electric vehicles, and renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.
