This council comprises 28 elected members and two appointed by the state government.
The council governs 52 of the state’s 58 blocks and was established under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution following the 49th Amendment on April 1, 1985.
Reacting to the election results, Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed confidence that the mandate favors the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. He highlighted the government’s commitment to development in both hilly and plain regions of the state and expressed gratitude to voters for their trust and participation.
On social media, TMP leader Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma stated that the election results empower the tribal community at the grassroots level. He emphasized the importance of the people’s victory, regardless of which party won, following a long struggle to reclaim their constitutional rights.
