New Delhi, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : The Ministry of Rural Development in India has officially notified 375 job categories under the developed India – Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (VB-G Ramji framework). This initiative aims to bolster rural employment and infrastructure.
The government’s announcement outlines specific tasks focused on water security, essential rural infrastructure, and livelihood-related projects. These efforts also aim to mitigate the impact of adverse weather conditions and enhance disaster preparedness in rural areas.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the new list includes 41 percent more job categories compared to the previous framework, which had only 266 jobs.
Among the newly approved tasks, water security emerges as the largest category, encompassing 128 projects. This is followed by 111 tasks related to essential rural infrastructure, 98 for livelihood-related infrastructure, and 38 projects focused on disaster preparedness and adverse weather events.
The water security category includes the construction, repair, and maintenance of canals, flood channels, check dams, and underground dams. It also encompasses the revitalization of ponds and traditional water sources, as well as the creation of percolation tanks, recharge pits, injection wells, and various structures for water conservation.
Additionally, the approved tasks for water conservation and irrigation include the implementation of artificial glaciers, known as ‘ice stupas,’ to enhance water availability and support agriculture in the region.
The schedule includes projects related to drip and sprinkler irrigation systems, as well as works aimed at improving water distribution at the field level and addressing waterlogged areas. Efforts to plant trees and promote afforestation, including bamboo, mangroves, coconut, rubber, and agroforestry, are also part of the initiative.
Under the essential rural infrastructure category, the tasks include the construction and maintenance of rural roads, bridges, footpaths, and other facilities to enhance connectivity and accessibility within villages.
The list also features the construction and improvement of essential public infrastructure, such as village council buildings, anganwadi centers, rural libraries, health centers, and veterinary clinics, catering to the needs of rural communities.
School-related infrastructure improvements are also included, with provisions for building additional classrooms, laboratories, toilets, kitchen sheds, compound walls, and playgrounds to enhance educational facilities in villages.
Another segment of the notified list focuses on waste management and renewable energy infrastructure. Approved projects encompass recycling plants, waste segregation sheds, compost pits, grey-water treatment units, solar street lighting systems, and biogas plants.
The framework also allows for the establishment of rural parks, bus stands, parking sheds, drinking water kiosks, seed banks, and multipurpose youth centers. Additionally, emergency evacuation and relief camp initiatives for border areas are included among the approved tasks.
