Congress Candidate Protests for Re-Election in West Bengals Rejinagar Constituency

Rejinagar, West Bengal, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Mohammad Abdullahil Kafi, the Congress candidate for the Rejinagar assembly seat in West Bengal‘s Murshidabad district, staged a protest on Tuesday outside the Rejinagar police station. He was accompanied by other party workers as they called for a complete re-election in the constituency.

Kafi accused BJP supporters of obstructing voters at various polling booths, particularly targeting those from minority communities. He also alleged that police and central security forces failed to intervene during these incidents.

Speaking to reporters, Kafi expressed his frustration, stating, “Voting in Rejinagar has become a joke. We demand that it be annulled immediately and that a full re-election be conducted.”

In response, Samik Bhattacharya, the West Bengal BJP president and Rajya Sabha member, dismissed Kafi’s claims as baseless. He suggested that the Congress candidate was making such allegations out of fear of a significant defeat.

“By-elections are taking place in Rejinagar and Nandigram, and BJP candidates will win both seats. Many are still skeptical that the BJP can win in minority-dominated areas. We are going to win in Nandigram by a margin five times greater than last time. Rejinagar is also a minority area, and we will win there too,” Bhattacharya stated.

Tensions were reported in both electoral constituencies. In Nandigram, Congress candidate Milan Pradhan accused BJP supporters of intimidating voters over the past two days, claiming that on Tuesday, the ruling party’s workers crossed all limits.

Pradhan remarked, “Everyone has the right to participate in elections. However, in Nandigram, there is no situation to exercise that democratic right. The ruling party’s workers are specifically targeting areas known to be anti-BJP. We are updating the Election Commission about these incidents.”

A source from the Chief Electoral Officer’s office indicated that most complaints received on Tuesday were from Congress party members.
