Andhra Pradesh Leaders Discuss Seat Sharing Ahead of Local Body Elections
Andhra Pradeshs CM N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan strategize seat sharing for upcoming local elections.

Amaravati, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : In Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan convened on Tuesday to strategize for the upcoming local body elections. Their discussions focused on seat sharing within the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the electoral strategy moving forward.
Pawan Kalyan attended a breakfast meeting hosted by Naidu at the Chief Minister’s official residence in Undavalli. The gathering also included Naidu’s son and minister, Nara Lokesh.
Following their meal, the two leaders engaged in a two-hour dialogue regarding both rural and urban local body elections. Sources indicate that they deliberated on the allocation of seats among NDA allies and the number of candidates each party should field.
The primary focus of Naidu, the national president of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), and Kalyan, leader of the Jana Sena Party, was the distribution of seats between their parties. They also discussed the allocation of mayoral and deputy mayoral positions in major municipalities.
Both leaders emphasized the need for a coordinated strategy among the ruling coalition and its allies for the local elections. They agreed that all parties within the alliance must act in unison once the election schedule is announced.
Naidu and Kalyan stressed the importance of collaboration among leaders from TDP, Jana Sena, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to secure a significant victory in the local elections.
Additionally, BJP state president P.V.N. Madhav is expected to meet separately with Naidu to discuss seat-sharing arrangements. It is anticipated that the distribution of seats among the allied parties will reflect their current strength in the state assembly.
In the 2024 assembly elections, the NDA, led by TDP, achieved a remarkable majority in Andhra Pradesh, winning 164 out of 175 seats. TDP secured 135 seats, Jana Sena claimed 21, and BJP obtained eight.
On October 1, the Andhra Pradesh High Court directed the state government and the State Election Commission to initiate the local body election process within six weeks. This ruling followed hearings on multiple writ petitions related to the elections for gram panchayats and municipalities.
The court also dismissed several petitions seeking to delay the local body elections until the completion of the ongoing Special Intensive Review (SIR) in the state.
