Hindustan Zinc Signs Rs 85 Crore MoU with Rajasthan Heritage Authority for Conservation Project

Jaipur, Sept 9 (Kiran News): Hindustan Zinc Limited, a Vedanta Group company and India’s largest integrated producer of zinc, lead and silver, has signed an MoU worth Rs 85 crore with the Rajasthan Heritage Authority to support heritage conservation in the state.

The agreement, signed for a period of three years, will channel CSR funds into the development of a heritage corridor at Poonchri Ka Lotha in Deeg, Mathura district. The project will include restoration works, a botanical garden, improvement of the parikrama route, and enhanced facilities for pilgrims and tourists.

The MoU was signed by Ram Ratan, CEO of Rajasthan Heritage Authority, and Arun Mishra, CEO and Whole-Time Director of Hindustan Zinc, in the presence of Onkar Singh Lakhawat, Chairman of the Authority. Senior officials including Vedanta Group & Hindustan Zinc CSR Head Anupam Nidhi, COO Kishore S, and Head of Corporate Affairs Saurav Dinda were also present.

Spiritual and Cultural Significance

Poonchri Ka Lotha, located within the Braj cultural landscape, marks the tail end of the sacred Govardhan hill and is an important stop on the Govardhan parikrama. Officials said the CSR-backed development will aid in heritage preservation, safer movement of pilgrims, and improved local livelihoods.

Onkar Singh Lakhawat said the collaboration highlights the shared responsibility of government and industry in preserving cultural heritage.
“Through Hindustan Zinc’s support, we aim to develop Poonchri Ka Lotha into a vibrant cultural and spiritual corridor that not only safeguards history but also enhances the experience of pilgrims and tourists,” he said.

Arun Mishra, CEO of Hindustan Zinc, said heritage connects communities to their roots and strengthens identity.
“We are proud to partner with the Rajasthan Heritage Authority in preserving and revitalising these cultural landmarks while also developing infrastructure to improve visitor experience and benefit local communities,” he added.

Hindustan Zinc has reiterated its broader CSR vision, which includes initiatives in education, healthcare, water conservation, women’s empowerment, and environmental sustainability. As of FY2025, the company has impacted over 2.3 million people across 2,300 villages, making it one of India’s top 10 CSR spenders.

Officials said the Poonchri Ka Lotha project reflects Rajasthan’s holistic approach to heritage conservation while fostering sustainable tourism, local pride, and regional livelihoods.
