
Guwahati, April 9: The political atmosphere in Assam became highly active as voting commenced for the assembly elections. On Thursday, several prominent leaders and candidates from the BJP and Congress arrived at polling stations to exercise their voting rights and expressed confidence in their victory. They also urged the public to participate actively in the democratic process.
BJP candidate and former MP Pradyut Bordoloi voted at the polling station located in the North Section of Marikalong High School. He stated, “I have just cast my vote. When I filed my nomination from Dispur, I was unable to transfer my vote, so I came here to vote.”
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi also cast his vote and expressed faith in his party’s success. He remarked, “We will create a new Assam. If our government is formed, we will preserve Assam’s traditions and culture and work to curb migration.”
Congress MP Rakibul Hussain voted with his family, stating, “I came here to cast my vote and fulfill my democratic duty. I will not say anything against the democratic process.”
BJP candidate Rajdeep Goala from the Udharbond seat appealed to voters to exercise their right to vote. He said, “I urge everyone to use their democratic rights. I hope Assam continues on the path of development and that people will support the BJP.”
Indranil Pegu, the Congress candidate from Majuli, described the voting day as a celebration of democracy. He stated, “Today is a joyful day for democracy, as a large number of people are coming out to vote.”
BJP candidate Bolin Chetia from Sadiya claimed public support for his party. He mentioned, “Assam, especially the youth, is with the BJP because they trust the government’s work.”
BJP leader Manab Deka characterized the voting atmosphere as festive. He said, “Elections in Assam are celebrated like a festival. I urge everyone to vote and apologize for any harsh remarks made during the campaign.”
Kunki Chaudhary, a candidate from the AJP, an ally of the Congress coalition, emphasized the need for change. He stated, “People have come out for real change. It is essential to be part of the system to change it.”
BJP candidate Mridul Kumar Dutta expressed happiness at voting as a first-time candidate and praised the high voter turnout. Another BJP candidate, Surya Rongphar, also noted the public enthusiasm as a sign of support for the party.
NDA candidate Atul Bora from Bokakhat described the day as memorable. He said, “We have worked hard for this day. It is gratifying to see the participation of women and youth. Voting is a constitutional and democratic right of every citizen.”
