Rahuls Challenge Lies in Decision-Making, Not Skills: Ambati Rayudu

New Delhi, April 9: In the IPL 2026 match held at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, fans witnessed an explosive performance from Delhi Capitals (DC) batsman KL Rahul. He scored a remarkable 92 runs off 52 balls against Gujarat Titans. Although DC lost the match, Rahul’s outstanding innings received accolades from both fans and critics alike.

Former cricketer Ambati Rayudu also praised Rahul, stating that there has never been a question regarding his shot selection.

Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, Rayudu said, “Initially, he was conservative, but he seized the opportunity beautifully. Perhaps that is his role in the DC side; the strategy is for him to bat deep.”

He added, “Rahul’s approach that night seemed well thought out. Instead of going all out early, he decided to anchor the innings, ensuring that Delhi Capitals stayed close to the target. Despite regular wickets falling at the other end, he maintained his composure, accelerating his innings and bringing the match closer.”

Rayudu explained that Rahul’s real challenge lies not in his skills but in his decision-making ability. “We all know that once he is at the crease, he has the game to hit boundaries off any delivery. This has been Rahul’s hallmark over the years. The real battle for him has always been his mindset—how and when he wants to play his shots. He can face spinners and fast bowlers alike, regardless of length. Therefore, the challenge is what strategy he will adopt while batting.”

He concluded, “Rahul’s intent was clear. He wanted to stay until the end and finish the chase. He aimed to take it deep, and he did a fantastic job. Let’s not forget he played a beautiful innings. Although he just missed out on a memorable win, his performance was the biggest individual score for DC this season.”

After scoring 0 and 1 in the last two matches, Rahul bounced back against GT with an impressive innings featuring 4 sixes and 11 fours.
