Indian Oil Corporation Assures Steady LPG Supply Amidst Increased Demand

New Delhi, April 8: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) announced on Wednesday that the supply of LPG across the country is running smoothly, with ample stock available. The company is working around the clock to ensure uninterrupted availability of cylinders for households.

In a post on the social media platform X, IOCL urged customers to remain calm and avoid unnecessary bookings. The company reassured that sufficient cylinders are readily available and the distribution system is functioning effectively.

IOCL emphasized that the LPG supply is stable and sufficient stock is on hand. The corporation is dedicated to delivering cylinders to every home efficiently. Customers are encouraged to stay calm and refrain from making unnecessary bookings.

This assurance comes at a time when the government is actively taking steps to enhance LPG supply for both domestic and industrial customers.

Earlier in the day, the central government announced that the limit for commercial LPG has been increased to 70% of wholesale consumption levels prior to March 2026. This increased limit will benefit various industrial sectors, including pharmaceuticals, food, polymers, agriculture, packaging, paint, steel, and glass industries.

However, according to an official statement, this increased allocation will be subject to a regional limit of 0.2 thousand metric tons per day. Industries seeking bulk LPG must register with oil marketing companies and comply with conditions for applying for piped natural gas (PNG) connections from city gas distribution (CGD) entities.

Exemptions are provided for units where LPG is a necessary raw material in the manufacturing process or where it is used for specific tasks that cannot be replaced by natural gas. Additionally, supply for vulnerable groups has also increased. The government has doubled the average daily supply of 5-kilogram LPG cylinders, commonly used by migrant workers.

In February, an average of 77,000 cylinders were sold daily, but this number has now exceeded 110,000. Since March 23, approximately 890,000 5-kilogram cylinders have been sold nationwide.

Moreover, the availability of commercial LPG remains robust. Since March 14, nearly 93,085 metric tons of LPG have been sold.
