Udaipur, October 4 (Udaipur Kiran News): India’s leading zinc producer, Hindustan Zinc, has made significant strides in animal welfare and biodiversity conservation, benefitting more than 8.7 lakh animals since 2016 through health camps and dedicated welfare initiatives. The company, in collaboration with The Animal Care Organization (TACO), is driving large-scale programs focused on animal health, protection, and ecosystem sustainability.

Speaking on the company’s vision, Arun Misra, CEO and Whole-Time Director of Hindustan Zinc, said, “Animal welfare and biodiversity conservation lie at the core of our sustainability agenda. Our interventions not only safeguard endangered and local species but also enhance the health of livestock crucial to rural communities. We believe ecological preservation and community prosperity must advance together.”
₹5 Crore Partnership for Crocodile Conservation at Baghdara Nature Park
A key milestone in this journey is the ₹5 crore MoU with the Udaipur Forest Department to develop the Baghdara Crocodile Conservation Sanctuary and Eco-Tourism Project. The initiative aims to restore the natural habitat of crocodiles, one of India’s most iconic reptiles.
Initial efforts include plantation of 5,000 saplings, creation of water conservation structures, and development of eco-trails to promote responsible tourism. The project also emphasizes community-led eco-tourism, providing sustainable livelihood opportunities for local residents.
Biodiversity Initiatives Across Rajasthan
Hindustan Zinc has also set up a Peacock Park at its Kayad mine to support India’s national bird, alongside endangered species nurseries at Kayad and Rampura Agucha mines. These nurseries offer safe spaces for rare plant species to thrive.
To further enhance biodiversity, the company has installed bird nests, feeding stations, butterfly gardens, and water ponds across its sites — fostering habitats that attract and protect native species.
Animal Health and Welfare Programs
The company’s animal welfare initiatives include:
Animal health camps
Lumpy Skin Disease prevention drives
Reflective collar campaigns
Dedicated Animal Welfare Centres
These programs improve livestock health, reduce disease risks, and empower farmers with knowledge and resources, linking animal welfare directly with rural prosperity.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
Aligned with the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Hindustan Zinc is demonstrating how industrial growth and environmental stewardship can coexist.
Through its holistic approach, the company is setting new benchmarks in responsible mining, wildlife conservation, and community engagement, reinforcing its role as a corporate leader in sustainability.
