ED Summons West Bengal Minister Sujit Bose Again in Recruitment Scam

Kolkata, May 2: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned West Bengal’s Fire Minister and Trinamool candidate from Bidhannagar, Sujit Bose, once again regarding the municipal recruitment corruption case.

On Friday, he appeared at the central agency’s office in the CGO Complex. This time, he was informed that he must return on May 6, bringing along certain documents related to his movable assets for verification by ED officials.

Notably, the ED has previously summoned Sujit Bose multiple times. However, the minister claimed he could not attend due to election campaigning. After the voting concluded, he appeared at the ED office in Salt Lake on Friday. His son, Samudra, has also been summoned by the central agency.

Earlier, the ED conducted searches at Sujit’s home and office. The agency has repeatedly called him in for questioning regarding the municipal recruitment corruption case, but he has consistently requested more time through letters to the ED.

Sujit approached the Calcutta High Court regarding this matter, informing the court about his busy schedule due to the assembly elections. Justice Krishna Rao’s bench ordered Sujit to appear at the ED office on May 1, leading to his attendance on Friday.

Sujit entered the ED office at 10:25 AM and left at 7 PM, spending a total of nine hours there. Upon exiting the CGO complex, he stated, “I came as a witness. If called to cooperate with the investigation, I will certainly come.” He further conveyed a message to the ED, saying, “No one should be summoned for harassment. Engaging in business is never a crime. Stealing is a crime.”

Additionally, another state minister, Rathin Ghosh, was also summoned by the ED on the same day concerning the same case. He has faced multiple summons as well but requested time, citing his involvement in election-related activities.

The results of the assembly elections in the state will be announced on Monday. Just a day later, he was called to the ED office. The ED had previously questioned Minister Rathin in October 2023 regarding the recruitment corruption case, during which his home was searched.

In January 2024 and October 2025, the ED conducted raids at Sujit Bose’s office and residence. Officials from the central agency also searched the addresses of some of his close associates.
