Heatwave Alert in Northern India, Relief Expected from June 11-12

New Delhi, June 7: The southwest monsoon is advancing rapidly in the southern and northeastern regions of India. However, this progress has yet to reach northern India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning that Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, and large parts of Rajasthan will experience severe heat and heatwave conditions in the coming days.

According to the weather department, light rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected in Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab on June 11-12. Winds may reach speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, with gusts potentially hitting 60 kilometers per hour.

Despite this, the IMD has warned of heatwave conditions in several areas of Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Punjab between June 8 and 11. Daytime temperatures are likely to rise again, leading to discomfort from both humidity and heat.

In eastern Uttar Pradesh, scattered rain is expected from June 10 to 12, while western Uttar Pradesh may see some rain on June 11-12. Nevertheless, heatwave conditions are anticipated in eastern Uttar Pradesh from June 9 to 10 and in western Uttar Pradesh from June 9 to 11.

Rajasthan is facing the most challenging weather conditions. A severe dust storm may occur in western Rajasthan on June 7, with wind speeds reaching 50 to 60 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour. Following this, a heatwave is likely in western Rajasthan from June 8 to 12. Meanwhile, eastern Rajasthan may experience scattered rain and strong winds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour from June 6 to 12.

In Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, intermittent rain may continue from June 7 to 12. Himachal Pradesh is expected to see light to moderate rain from June 6-8 and again on June 11-12, while Uttarakhand may experience similar weather from June 6 to 12.

In Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and the Vidarbha region, rain and thunderstorms are likely to persist until June 12. Eastern and western Madhya Pradesh may experience strong winds of 40-50 kilometers per hour until June 10, while Vidarbha may face thunderstorms in the next three days. Chhattisgarh is expected to have similar weather from June 8 to 12.

The southwest monsoon is advancing rapidly across the country. According to the IMD, the monsoon reached the Arabian Sea’s central and eastern regions, parts of Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, most of Tamil Nadu, and several areas of the Bay of Bengal, as well as Mizoram and Manipur by June 6.

The weather department stated that conditions are favorable for the monsoon to progress further into Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, the Bay of Bengal, and more areas of northeastern India in the next 2 to 3 days. In the following 4 to 5 days, the monsoon is expected to reach additional parts of Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, northeastern India, and some regions of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
