Southwest Monsoon Arrives in Andhra Pradesh, Weather Alert Issued for Rain and Heatwave

Amaravati, June 7: The southwest monsoon has officially arrived in Andhra Pradesh. Karuna Sagar, a scientist at the Amaravati Meteorological Center, announced that the monsoon began in the Anantapur, Tirupati, and Chittoor regions. It is expected to advance rapidly to other parts of the state in the next two to three days.

According to the weather department, this is excellent news for farmers, as the activation of the monsoon will greatly benefit agriculture. Rainfall activities are expected to continue in the Rayalaseema region over the next seven days. While light rain is anticipated in some areas, a significant increase in rainfall is expected around June 13-14 in coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Karuna Sagar informed that thunderstorms with rain and lightning could occur in several areas of Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh over the next five days. Winds may reach speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, particularly affecting Anantapur and regions where the monsoon is becoming active. Warnings have also been issued for strong winds during thunderstorms in northern and central coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Despite the monsoon’s arrival, no significant drop in temperature is expected over the next five days. The weather department has reported a heatwave condition persisting for the last two days, which may continue for another three days. Coastal areas, including Nellore, Prakasam, Palnadu, Bapatla, Guntur, Krishna, West Godavari, Konaseema, Kakinada, and NTR districts, will experience hot and humid weather.

Residents of Eluru, East Godavari, Alluri Sitarama Raju, and Anakapalli districts may also face heat and humidity. The weather department has advised people to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities between 11 AM and 4 PM. When going outside, wearing hats, sunglasses, and covering the body with clothing, along with staying hydrated, is recommended.

Due to the strong winds, the department has warned against standing under trees. There is a risk of branches breaking, small plants being uprooted, and damage to electricity and telephone poles. Many districts are recording temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, with increases of over 4.5 degrees Celsius compared to normal temperatures. Districts such as West Godavari, Konaseema, Narsapuram, Thuni, Kakinada, Nellore, Kavali, Prakasam, and Bapatla are among the most affected by the heatwave.
