Mumbai, June 27: The Maharashtra State Examination Council has postponed the ‘Teacher Eligibility Test’ (TET) 2026, originally scheduled for June 28, 2026, across 1,028 centers in the state. The state government has taken serious note of the paper leak incident and will take strict action against those responsible, as stated by School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse.
Minister Bhuse revealed that the police received confidential information indicating that some suspects in Bhiwandi possessed the TET exam question paper. Acting on this tip-off, Bhiwandi police conducted a raid and detained the relevant suspects. The seized question paper was verified by officials from the Maharashtra State Examination Council, and it was found to contain questions similar to those in the actual exam scheduled for the next day. A case has been registered at the Bhiwandi police station regarding this serious matter.
To protect students’ interests and maintain transparency in the examination process, the government decided to postpone the exam on June 28. This decision was made due to the necessity of a thorough investigation into the matter. Minister Bhuse assured that students would not need to register or pay fees for this exam. He also mentioned that a new exam date would be announced soon.
Minister Bhuse emphasized that the School Education Department, in collaboration with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, is taking this issue seriously and has instructed the police to conduct a detailed investigation.
Previously, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the case, which will be led by Thane’s Joint Commissioner, Punjab Rao Ugle.
Chief Minister Fadnavis has also communicated with School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse and DGP Sadanand Date, directing them to take stringent action against the offenders.
The exam was postponed earlier due to concerns over the paper leak, following the police’s discovery of questions matching those on the exam paper during their operation in Bhiwandi. The investigation is ongoing, and a case has been registered at the Bhiwandi police station.
