EAM Jaishankar Meets President Macron in Paris, Strengthening India-France Ties

Paris, March 28: India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday, extending greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a post on the social media platform X, Dr. Jaishankar expressed, “It was an honor to meet President Emmanuel Macron last night. I conveyed warm regards from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I value our discussions and his insights.”

This meeting occurred just a month after President Macron’s official visit to India from February 17-19, which aimed to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and France.

During his visit, Macron focused on technology and innovation, inaugurating the India-France Year of Innovation 2026 in Mumbai, where he met with PM Modi. He later participated in the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi.

Dr. Jaishankar also visited the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center in Paris, expressing hope that the renovated facility would serve as a hub for the growing interest in Indian art and culture.

In his post, he stated, “I visited the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center in Paris. I witnessed a splendid expression of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage. I am confident that this renovated facility will act as a hub to enhance interest in Indian art and culture in Paris.”

The center showcases exquisite Indian art, including a mural depicting the Tree of Life with elephants and peacocks, along with intricate miniature paintings reflecting spiritual heritage.

Managed by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), this center aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to enhancing cultural hubs in Europe, as discussed during his February talks with President Macron, serving as a diplomatic tool to promote India-France relations.

Dr. Jaishankar arrived in France on March 27 for the G7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting. During the discussions, he emphasized the importance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) in strengthening global connectivity amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.

He noted that conflicts in West Asia underscore the need for robust trade routes and secure supply chains.
