Varanasi, April 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Varanasi on Wednesday to offer prayers at the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Following this, he will travel to Hardoi to inaugurate the Ganga Expressway, a project costing ₹36,230 crores.
According to an official statement, the Prime Minister will perform rituals at the temple around 8:30 AM. He will then head to Hardoi, where he is expected to inaugurate the expressway at approximately 11:30 AM and address a public gathering.
The inauguration of the Ganga Expressway marks a significant milestone in the development of world-class infrastructure in the country. This expressway, spanning 594 kilometers, is a six-lane, access-controlled greenfield high-speed corridor built at a total cost of around ₹36,230 crores.
The expressway will pass through 12 districts: Meerut, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj. It will connect the western, central, and eastern regions of Uttar Pradesh through a seamless high-speed corridor.
The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj. Currently, the journey takes 10-12 hours, but with the new expressway, it will take approximately 6 hours, enhancing ease of travel and improving transportation efficiency.
A key feature of this project is a 3.5-kilometer-long emergency landing facility located in Shahjahanpur district. The Ganga Expressway is envisioned as a major economic corridor, with plans for integrated manufacturing and logistics corridors spanning approximately 2,635 hectares across the 12 districts it traverses.
The expressway is expected to lower logistics costs, enhance supply chain capabilities, and boost manufacturing competitiveness. Improved connectivity will provide farmers direct access to urban and export markets, enabling them to secure better prices for their produce and strengthen rural incomes.
Additionally, the Ganga Expressway will serve as a backbone for a larger network of expressways in the state. Several link corridors are either operational or in planning stages, including the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Jewar Link Expressway, Farrukhabad Link Expressway, and the proposed extension from Meerut to Haridwar.
