New Delhi, April 29: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has made a special appeal to voters during the second phase of voting in West Bengal. He urged women and youth to participate in large numbers to free Bengal from the rule of fear, syndicates, and corruption.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Shah stated, “I appeal to all voters in the second and final phase, especially mothers, sisters, and youth, to vote in large numbers to liberate Bengal from the rule of fear, syndicates, and corruption.”
He further encouraged West Bengal voters, saying, “Your vote will not only restore Bengal’s pride but also ensure safety for women. Only a government with a vision for development and the determination to expel infiltrators can fulfill the dreams of Bengal’s youth. Vote in record numbers for ‘Sonar Bangla’.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called for record voter turnout in West Bengal. In a post on ‘X’, he said, “Today marks the second phase of the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. I urge everyone voting today to come out in record numbers and make our democracy even more vibrant and participatory. It is especially crucial for the women and youth of West Bengal to exercise their voting rights in large numbers.”
In another post, PM Modi emphasized, “As vigilant citizens of the country, it is our duty to ensure record voting to empower our democracy. This way, we can actively participate in the nation-building of India and strengthen the foundation of a capable and prosperous nation.”
On this occasion, PM Modi also shared a Sanskrit verse, stating, “Rajño hi vratamutthānaṃ yajñaḥ kāryānusaśanam. Dakṣiṇā vṛttisāmyaṃ ca dīkṣitasya abhiṣecanam.” This translates to the importance of continuous upliftment of the populace for public welfare, diligently fulfilling duties, making just decisions, generously giving, maintaining equality, and dedicating oneself to purity and discipline, which is the true resolve of a public representative.
It is noteworthy that voting is taking place for 142 seats in the second and final phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections. Voting began at 7 AM, with over 3.12 crore voters determining the fate of 1,448 candidates.
