Hyderabad — In a significant move to expand its digital services, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has officially entered the 5G broadband segment with the launch of its new Q-5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service. The state-run telecom operator has introduced this next-gen service starting at ₹999 per month, offering high-speed internet without the need for a SIM card or physical wiring.
This marks a major step for BSNL in its push to compete with private players like Jio AirFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber, while also providing affordable internet options to Indian households.
BSNL Q-5G FWA Plans and Speed
BSNL has currently launched two Q-5G FWA broadband plans:
₹999 per month — Delivers internet speeds of up to 100 Mbps
₹1,499 per month — Provides speeds of up to 300 Mbps
Both plans come with 30-day validity. While BSNL has not yet provided full clarity on any data caps or Fair Usage Policy (FUP), it is expected that some usage limitations may apply, similar to offerings from competing services.
How Does BSNL Q-5G FWA Work?
Unlike traditional wired broadband, BSNL’s Q-5G FWA operates through plug-and-play technology:
No SIM card is required.
No underground wiring is needed.
Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) is installed on the user’s rooftop to receive 5G signals.
The CPE connects to a router inside the home to provide Wi-Fi-based high-speed internet.
The setup is simple and designed to deliver stable, high-speed internet to homes and offices, even in areas where fiber-optic cables have not been laid.
Where Has BSNL Q-5G FWA Launched?
BSNL has kicked off the service in Hyderabad and has announced plans to expand to other major cities soon. Upcoming rollout locations include:
Bengaluru
Pune
Chandigarh
Pondicherry
Visakhapatnam
Gwalior
BSNL aims to cover these cities by September 2025 as part of its first-phase deployment.
Competing in the 5G FWA Market
BSNL’s entry into the 5G FWA segment comes as India’s demand for home broadband continues to grow, especially in semi-urban and rural regions where wired fiber connections remain limited. The Q-5G FWA service provides an affordable alternative and could significantly boost BSNL’s subscriber base.
With this launch, BSNL is also taking a major step toward modernizing its offerings, while staying competitive with private sector players such as Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, who have already seen strong adoption of their 5G-based home broadband services.
Conclusion
For consumers, this is great news — more competition in the 5G broadband space means better options and pricing for users across India. With affordable starting prices, wireless installation, and high speeds, BSNL’s Q-5G FWA service could be an attractive choice for homes and small businesses looking for reliable high-speed internet.
Stay tuned for further updates as BSNL expands its 5G service footprint in the coming months.
