Ujjain, May 31: On the auspicious occasion of the full moon during the Jyeshtha month, the gates of Baba Mahakal Temple opened at 4 AM on Sunday. After the divine adornment and the Bhasma Aarti, the atmosphere filled with the chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal” as devotees caught a glimpse of Baba Mahakal’s celestial form.
As the temple gates opened, Baba Mahakal was bathed with Hari Om water, Panchamrit, milk, and yogurt amidst the chanting of mantras. Following the elaborate adornment, the Bhasma Aarti was performed.
The temple priests conducted the Maha Aarti, allowing a large number of devotees to witness the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal. Devotees from across the country and abroad stood in long queues from late night, eager to have a glimpse of their beloved deity.
In the early morning, after seeking the blessings of Lord Veerbhadra, the temple gates were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. The moment the gates opened, the entire complex resonated with the chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The temple was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras.
After the gates opened, water was first offered to the deity. This was followed by a divine bath with Panchamrit, made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and sugar. Throughout this time, the temple complex echoed with the chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal” and the sound of conch shells.
It is noteworthy that the ‘Nirakar to Sakar’ form of Baba Mahakal signifies the spiritual and philosophical transformation of Shiva, where the formless and omnipresent Supreme Being (Nirakar) manifests in a specific and worshipable form (Sakar) for the welfare of devotees.
The significance of witnessing Baba Mahakal during this auspicious month is immense. This is why a large number of devotees travel from various parts of the world to attend this Aarti. The temple regularly attracts not only common people but also several prominent personalities.
