(Kiran News) – State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is gearing up to take on private telecom companies with a significant government-backed investment. The Centre has approved a capital expenditure plan of ₹47,000 crore to strengthen BSNL’s network infrastructure. Last year, the company spent nearly ₹25,000 crore on installing towers for its 4G network.

According to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has instructed BSNL to boost its mobile services business by 50 percent and expand its customer base by next year. In a recent meeting with BSNL’s circle and business unit heads, Scindia also urged each unit to increase enterprise business by 25–30 percent and fixed-line business by 15–20 percent, while improving the company’s average revenue per user (ARPU).
New Services and 5G Plans
Over the past few months, BSNL has launched several new services, including doorstep delivery of SIM cards via an online portal. Customers can opt for prepaid or postpaid SIMs, but must complete self-KYC verification before delivery.
Recently, BSNL rolled out India’s first customised SIM-less 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service based on indigenous technology. Priced at ₹999 for 100 Mbps and ₹1,499 for 300 Mbps plans, the service uses an outdoor modem to receive signals from the nearest base station, eliminating the need for optical fibre connections.
The company is also preparing to launch its 5G network, branded as Q-5G, where ‘Q’ stands for Quantum. Plans include expanding equipment for both 4G and 5G services.
