
New Delhi, May 31: A tragic incident occurred near the Saket Metro Station in South Delhi when a five-story building collapsed. Many individuals were trapped under the debris, prompting a rescue operation that lasted throughout the night. So far, nine people have been rescued, but unfortunately, one person has lost their life.
According to the latest updates, eight injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at the AIIMS Trauma Center. Officials reported that seven people were rescued by the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) with assistance from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), and other agencies, while two were saved by local residents.
The deceased has been identified as Ravi, aged 26. Medical personnel on duty declared him dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The injured include Tarun Kumar (26) from Gurugram, Saika Khan (27) from Bihar, Neelam Yadav (25) from Saidulajab, Aditya Sharma (24) from Saidulajab, Kshitij Pratap (25) from Noida, Anuj Dixit (25) from Saket, Aastha (25) from Saidulajab, and Vishal (24) from Saket.
Following the incident, teams from Civil Defense, police, fire department, and the NDRF conducted a joint rescue operation throughout the night.
Search and rescue efforts are still ongoing at the site. The operation was intensified on Sunday morning, with heavy machinery being used to clear the debris.
The collapse occurred in the Saidulajab area on Western Road, near the Saket Metro Station. The building’s fall also caused damage to surrounding areas, necessitating the deployment of a large number of police and rescue personnel to the scene.
Authorities have indicated that the search operation will continue, as there is concern that more individuals may be trapped. The injured have been promptly admitted to nearby hospitals.
The cause of the collapse remains unknown at this time. Relevant agencies are investigating the reasons behind the building’s failure.
It is reported that the building fell onto a tin-shed canteen next door, where children were eating, resulting in many people being trapped under the rubble.
