Mumbai, May 31: Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali recently expressed his deep admiration for music maestro A.R. Rahman during a conversation on the music reality show “Indian Idol.”
Ali highlighted the incredible dedication Rahman shows for his craft, even at this stage in his career. He shared a glimpse of Rahman’s commitment to music, recalling a late-night work session at the composer’s studio. “I was at your studio until 4:30 AM last night,” Ali remarked.
Adding a light-hearted touch, Rahman jokingly said, “For the first time, I felt sleepy.”
During the discussion, host Harsh Limbachiya praised their collaboration, noting, “Imtiaz sir, I believe this is your fifth film with Rahman sir. What would you like to say about him? Whenever you both come together, you create magic. It feels like we can always stay in that serene mood while listening to these songs.”
In response, Ali stated, “This magic has been building from the start. It’s not that he planned for the magic to begin only when I arrived. Every song has been something new, from the first one to now.”
He further emphasized that his admiration for Rahman has only grown stronger over the years. “I was a huge fan of Rahman sir before, but after working on five films with him, I can confidently say I’m an even bigger fan now.”
Ali praised the Oscar-winning composer’s passion for music, saying, “Despite feeling sleepy, he would get up and head to the keyboard. His love for music runs deep. I believe that kind of admiration for his art should be the same for Rahman sir. Every time I work with him, I discover something new that I try to emulate. I am truly grateful for this opportunity.”
Reflecting on one of his favorite songs composed by Rahman, Ali reminisced, “One such song is ‘Aajma Le,’ which I have mentioned before. If someone hasn’t fully appreciated that song, I would request them to please listen to it. The song from ‘Taxi Number 9211,’ sung by Shekhar Ravjiani, is incredibly beautiful.”
